Dear St. Matthew’s Church Family,
In the past three sermons, Pastor Grace and I have been sharing messages about what the Bible says about This Thing Called Church. There are two more sermons in the series. This week, we’ll consider what it means that the Church is The Body of Christ. This is one of the most prominent and meaningful images for the Church in the New Testament. It is an image that has much to teach us if we are willing to learn. The Scripture readings will be 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 and 1 Corinthians 12:12-31.
While Anne and I were away last week, I took some time to do some planning for future sermon series. Coming up in June, July, and August, are two series that will help us to continue growing as God’s people. The next series is called Unsettled: Asking the Tough Questions. I think you will want to join us as we wrestle together with the role questions play in our life, our faith and our ability to become the best versions of the people God created us to be. Then we will turn our attention to Moses. The story of Moses and the delivery of the Israelite slaves from the tyranny of Egypt is the defining story of the Jewish people. Moses’ life is full of lessons of how God works in the wilderness. This sermon series will explore the remarkable story of Moses and what we can learn from his life. I know that summer is a season for vacations and opportunities to travel. But we don’t want to take a summer vacation from our journey with Jesus. With God’s help, we will continue to worship and we will continue to grow in our faith and discipleship.
I hope you have a meaningful and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend as you reflect on the sacrifices made by the men and women who lost their lives in service to our nation. If you are traveling, I prayyou have a safe trip. And if you are in town, I look forward to seeing you on Sunday morning.
