Dear St. Matthew’s Church Family,
As I mentioned in last week’s eNote, the 2018 meeting of the Virginia Annual Conference is taking place in Hampton this weekend. All of us who are representing St. Matthew’s ask for your prayers as we travel to and from Hampton. We also ask for prayers that everyone who attends the Conference will experience God’s grace and peace as we work together to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. You can find out much more about Annual Conference, including a link for live-streaming, at www.vaumc.org/AC2018.
I hope you have marked your calendar and are planning to attend the celebration of Reverend Grace Han’s ministry on Wednesday June 20 at 6:00 p.m. St. Matthew’s Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) is hosting this opportunity to thank her and say farewell to Grace and her family. We are asking for RSVP’s for this event so that we can set-up and be prepared. We are also asking everyone to bring a side dish to share. The main dish will be provided (homemade BBQ!). Please contact Angela Culbertson (SPRC Chair) at email@example.com by June 18 to RSVP.
Last Sunday, we blessed and commissioned members of our summer mission teams, the first of which – the Youth Music Tour – leaves tomorrow morning (Saturday June 16). You are all invited to enjoy the pre-tour concert this evening (Friday June 15) at 6:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. If you are in town, I hope you will come out to hear some beautiful music and support these talented musicians.
On Sunday morning, while St. Matthew’s clergy are attending Annual Conference, you will be blessed by a message from Mike Fee, St. Matthew’s Director of Youth Ministries. Mike will share a message entitled, “What Makes a Family” based on Romans 12:1-8 and Mark 3:31-35.
One final note for this week. St. Matthew’s Main Entrance under the steeple and the Youth Wing/Social Hall entrances on the Little River Turnpike side of the church will be closed from Monday, June 18 through Sunday, June 24, due to concrete replacement work on our sidewalks and steps. All other entrances will be accessible during construction. You will want to allow extra time to enter the building during the construction period. I’m thankful for the Board of Trustees, who work hard all year to ensure that all of our facilities are maintained (and improved when necessary) so that we have safe and welcoming spaces through which we accomplish the mission of the church.
Since I won’t see you on Sunday, I want to wish all of the Dads a Happy Father’s Day. I hope everyone has a great weekend.
