The Earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof. -Psalm 24:1

The Creation Care Team at St. Matthew's focuses on our Christian responsibility to protect and preserve God's Creation, the Earth.  As Christians, our covenant with God requires us to be stewards, protectors, and defenders of all creation.

Our mission is to provide practical means for members of St. Matthew's UMC to live out our faith through the care of all God's creation.  We will encourage and facilitate activities within and around St. Matthew's that help protect our environment, lead to a more careful and efficient use of the resources of the natual world, and illuminate God's presence in his creation.

Creation Care Team Goals

  • Promote the understanding of creation care from theological and faith-based perspectives.

  • Suppor the members of St. Matthew's to become more conscientious about minimizing the impact of human activity on the environment in our church, out homes, in our communities and on our planet.

  • Aid in the environmental education of the diverse audiences found within and around St. Matthew's.
  • Find ways to increase energy efficiency through conservation and the use of improved technologies (i.e. energy efficient alternatives) to decrease financial, health and environmental cost to our community.

  • Increase awareness of the benefits to our community of reducing consumption, re-using resources and recycling waste at St. Matthew's.

  • Defend our community's natural environment and ecological health for the generations to come.

If you would like an opportunity to care for God's creation, the Creation Care Team provides a proactical means for members of St. Matthew's to live out our faith through the care of all God's creation.  For more information or to join the Creation Care Team, contact Leeanne Alonso or David Throckmorton
