Current Sermon Series: Keeping Sabbath

The Bible tells us that God “rested on the seventh day” (Genesis 2:2) and that one of God’s most important (top ten) commandments is: “remember the sabbath day, and keep it holy” (Exodus 20:8). But 21st century life is busy — very busy — and taking time to rest and re-create feels like a luxury that we cannot afford. But if Keeping Sabbath is important to God, it is also important to us. This series of sermons will explore what the Bible teaches us about the sabbath and how Keeping Sabbath can help us live the life that God intends.

New Sermon Series and Small Group Study Starts September 8
Starting on Sunday, September 8, our pastors will be preaching a series of sermons called Reckless Love. Based on a book by Reverend Tom Berlin, the series and study will focus on Jesus’ call to love our neighbors and how learning to love our neighbors can lead us to a deeper love of God. Several Sunday School classes will be studying the book. Look for details soon. Contact Nickie Moreno Howard at nhoward@stmatthewsumc.org for more information about Adult Sunday School, Small Group, and Discipleship classes. Anne Hough will be leading a study on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in room 306. Contact Anne at eaehough@gmail.com if you would like to participate or have questions.
