Gift Sales/Donations
It is more blessed to give than to receive."
-- Acts 20:35
Through worship, prayer, mission work and Christian education, St. Matthew’s seeks to be a faith community where all are accepted and invited to follow Christ. All Christians are called to be followers of Jesus Christ. Faithful financial stewardship is one important sign of a growing disciple.
If each church family took one step up (1% of its household income) over last year’s giving, our church could have an additional $500,000+ to further St. Matthew’s mission work and ministries. Let’s do it!

If you would like to support our ministry with a donation, you can mail your tax-deductible contribution to:

Or simply donate online now to help fund St. Matthew's missions and education programs.
If you would like to find out about other ways you can help, please see the list below or contact the church office at 703-978-3500.
Kits for Conference: We will take health kits, school kits, layettes and sewing kits to our annual conference on June 13. A list of the contents for the kits can be found on the Information Table in the Narthex. Kits should be brought to the Church Office by Thursday, June 10.
2010 Cuban Mission Trip: This June Pete Peters will join a Virginia Methodist Mission Team going to Cuba to work on a church located about 100 miles from Havana. All money donations go to help pay pastors' salaries (about $10 per month). Along with cash donations, there will be a Cuban Mission donation box in the Information Hallway to collect items needed by the church (electric tools--drills, skill saws with power cords--shovels, picks, masonry tools, levels, and caulk lines), any health-related items, medicines, sheets and towels. Questions: Contact Pete Peters at 703-503-9356.
VBS Donations: The Children’s Council posted a Vacation Bible School Bulletin Board in the Information Hallway. Important information and donation requests will be posted from week to week. Please look at the board to find ways you can support VBS through your donations and by volunteering.
Contributions for the Nancy and Herb Cappel Scholarship: If you would like to contribute to the scholarship fund to honor Nancy's 40 years of outstanding service to the music program at St. Matthew's, please make your check payable to St. Matthew's, and in the memo line write "Cappel Scholarship". If you prefer to give cash, please put it in a pew envelope and mark it "Cappel Scholarship".
Halloween 2010: Children's Council is asking for donations of your old costumes as they plan for a celebration for 2010. Please drop off any unwanted used costumes in the Information Hallway in the basket marked Halloween Costumes.
Joy Fund: Our Joy Fund is very low. We have been inundated with requests for rent, gas, electric, and food assistance. From time to time, many in our homeless community request lodging for one or two nights so they can escape the cold. We would like to help as much as we can, but we are limited because of low funds in the Joy Fund. If you can make a contribution to the Joy Fund, it would be greatly appreciated, and would help us to meet some of the requests that come to us daily. Thank you for the many ways that you help those in need.
In Lieu of Flowers, Give a Food Basket: During these difficult times, it has come to our attention that some churches offer an alternative opportunity to honor or remember a loved one by providing a food basket in their name. If you would like to provide a food basket, you may do so for the same price as a flower arrangement ($45). The basket will be on display in the Chancel area. A sign-up chart is in the Information Hallway next to the Flower Calendar. This also allows us to replenish our food closet so that we can continue to serve those in need in our community.
Food Closet: We hand out hundreds of food bags to those in need. Needed items are tuna fish, canned meat, fruit, spaghetti sauce and juice.
Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich supplies needed.
Grace Ministries: Donate diapers and baby wipes to this organization which ministers to our immigrant neighbors. A donation box is in the Information Hall.
Cell Phone Collection: Our Junior High Jeremiah Project Team is participating in a nationwide cell phone recycling program called The CellFund Program. Did you know that there are approximately 50 million de-activated cell phones in homes and businesses in America? Do you have any cell phones lying around your home or office? Instead of throwing them away, the donation of your old cell phone will help the Jeremiah Project raise funds! Deposit them in the collection box in the Information Hallway.
Campbell Soup and Campbell Product Labels: Henry Fork Service Center, Rocky Mount, VA, (a UM project) collects labels. Collection box in the church's office.
Wednesday Night Suppers: Running Wednesdays, September through May, at 5:30 PM in the Social Hall with a different food theme and mission project weekly. $7 per person or $25 per family of four or more.
