A Home for All God's Children
St. Matthew's United Methodist Church is open every day to give you heartfelt opportunities to learn, grow and feel at home spiritually.
Celebrating Discipline
This month, in our sermon series, “Celebrating Discipline: Are You Kidding Me?” we will reflect on those actions that allow us to reconnect with the One who is always seeking to connect with us. We might get caught up in the word “discipline” and yet, that word comes from a Latin word meaning instruction. We all need instruction to understand, learn and grow.
Jesus showed his disciples how practicing the disciplines of worship, prayer, study, service and gathering around the table, were ways to be open to God’s presence in their life. Those same disciplines enable us, as followers of Jesus Christ today, to become more receptive to God’s presence in our lives and lead us to experience life more fully. Join us each Sunday at any of our three worship services to hear more about celebrating discipline.
Explore your Faith
Join any of many adult studies in 2010. From newcomer classes to in-depth subject matters, find a study group to help you find more meaning in life and to deepen your faith. See our full list of adult classes for Sundays and weekdays. Plus we offer classes for youth and children to help them activitely learn about God in a truly meaningful way.
Commit to Giving Back
Times of great need spur times of great giving. We gave out 677 bags of food in 2009 to families in need--a 60% increase from 2008. That’s more than 2,100 meals, not including the 49 holiday
dinner baskets--complete with turkeys, vegetables,
and pies--that were given. Turn to our donation and volunteer pages on how you can give back to your local community and global relief efforts.
