Financial Administrator (Part-Time)

Location: Hybrid (some in-office work required)

Hours: Approximately 15 hours per week

Children’s Ministry Coordinator 

Reports to: Director of Family Ministries 

PT/FT Status: Part Time 

Job Type: Ministerial 

Expected Hours: 10-15 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

General Aim and Primary Goals: 

We are seeking a dedicated individual to help oversee our vibrant children’s ministry, serving as a beacon of guidance and support for our youngest members and their families. The ideal candidate will be passionate, positive, and deeply committed to fostering a nurturing and engaging environment where children can grow in their faith. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Help develop and maintain a compelling vision for children’s and youth’s Christian education and worship experiences.

  • Lead engaging children’s time during worship services and facilitate enriching Sunday School sessions for children grades 5 and below.

  • Implement biblically sound curricula tailored to different age groups at the direction of the Director of Family Ministries.

  • Work in coordination with the Director of Family Ministries to execute large community events throughout the year, including but not limited to, Fall Festival, A Visit with St. Nicholas, Shrove Tuesday, and the Easter Extravaganza. 

  • Recruit, train, and empower volunteers to effectively contribute to children’s ministry.

  • Ensure compliance with SMUMC Child Protection Policy, including reported needed background checks for all volunteers to the Director of Family Ministries.

  • Foster open communication with volunteers, parents, and teachers, addressing questions and concerns promptly. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience

  • Experience in religious education is advantageous.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the Christian faith and experience working with young children.

  • Possess spiritual maturity and a warm, welcoming demeanor.

  • Dependable, responsible, self-motivated and creative.

  • Strong organizational, communication, teaching, and administrative skills.

  • Proficiency in computer applications relevant to ministry management.

  • Understanding of child development principles and best practices.

  • Must pass an acceptable background check, including but not limited to the Virginia State Police criminal check and sex offender registry. 

  • Must have flexible schedule availability, namely on weekends.
