Follow Jesus.
Love All People.
Bless Our Community

You’re welcome here—just as you are.

Explore what faith means to you at St. Matthew's—through messages that resonate, worship that moves you, and relationships that matter. No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, you belong here.

A place to belong

At St. Matthew's, we center our lives on following Jesus and his teachings. We believe everyone belongs here—no exceptions, no conditions. Whether you're just exploring faith or have walked with Christ for years, whatever your background, identity, or story, you are welcome at our table.

We're committed to making Fairfax County a better place simply because we're here. Through our food pantry, ESOL classes, and partnerships with local schools, we put love into action, serving our neighbors and strengthening our community one relationship at a time.

This is who we are: followers of Jesus, lovers of all people, blessers of our community.

Here’s what sets us apart.

It’s all about Jesus!

You belong here—fully and completely. When we say "everyone," we really mean it. No fine print. No conditions. Just wholehearted affirmation and celebration of who you are. Questioning? Exploring? Sure of your faith? Not religious at all? However you arrive, you have a place at St. Matthew's.

Find us this Sunday. (And the Sunday after that…)

Our services are reverent and soul-stirring, featuring scripture, impactful sermons, and a rich musical tradition. Here’s what to expect.

Summer Worship | Sundays at 10 a.m.

Join us this summer for one combined worship service at 10 a.m., blending the richness of our traditional worship with the energy of our modern service. You’ll experience beloved hymns and contemporary music, led by our choirs, and worship band, creating a meaningful and engaging time of worship for all ages and backgrounds.

Each week, we gather around Word and Sacrament. On Sept. 20th we return to our Fall schedule of 9 a.m. Traditional Worship and 11 a.m. Modern Worship.

For kids and kids at heart

We believe children aren't just the future of the church; they are a vital part of it now.

  • Children in Worship: Kids are always welcome in our sanctuary. During the worship service, children are invited to the altar (the front of the church) for a special Children’s Message.

  • Children’s Worship: Following the message, children ages 4 through 2nd grade may head to a special time of spiritual formation just for them, featuring age-appropriate lessons, crafts, and games.

  • Nursery Care: A safe, loving nursery is available for infants through 3-year-olds during worship.

St. Matthew’s is a home for All of God’s Children.

The Risen Christ bas-relief

As St. Matthew’s outreach and membership grew during the 1980s and 1990s, it became clear that the church needed to expand its facilities. The centerpiece of the new addition was the sanctuary, and its focal point would be the Risen Christ bas-relief sculpture. Bill and Vi Hauenstein donated the artwork in memory of Jennifer Lynn Hauenstein. A bas-relief sculpture features a design raised slightly from a flat background, creating gentle depth and relying on light and shadow for detail.

In 1991, a committee selected artist Stafford Rolph of Alexandria to design and create the sculpture, and a brick manufacturer in West Virginia provided the brickwork.

The design called for larger-than-normal pieces. Each piece was numbered so that the bricks could be returned to their proper places after firing and during the final construction of the wall. Not a single one of the 289 carved face bricks or 111 shaped backup bricks cracked or was damaged in the firing process. Based on his experience, Mr. Rolph considered this extraordinary.

The new sanctuary opened in 1992. Today, the Risen Christ bas-relief continues to invite us to welcome Christ into our lives, live our faith, grow as His disciples, and strengthen our relationships with God and one another.
